Sangweni Back In Football |
Former Orlando Pirates defender, Siyabonga Sangweni, who retired from active football last season, is back in the game as he has formed his own team in Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal.
The team will be part of Eastern Cape New Year tournament which will take place in Grahamstown.
According to organisers, the tournament preparations are already in full swing.
CEO of the New Year Cup, Sifundo Klass confirmed that Sangweni’s team will be amongst the teams hoping to make it to the final tournament and that Sangweni will not be the only legend of the game to be involved.
“Siyabonga Sangweni’s team from Empangeni has also (entered). Yes, the former Bafana star owns a team and it’s good for football,” he added. “This tournament will also focus on paying tribute to former Eastern Cape Stars and legends like Sisa Nombe, Bulelani Matroos, Brendon Augustine, Patrick Mayo, Samkelo Jam Jam and Mgwiwi. We’rebringing them back to the game to help youngsters who will be participating in this tournament. And the tournament is gaining momentum with full support of all stakeholders involved,” Klass concluded.
