SAFA : Bafana down Pharoahs to lift Nelson Mandela ChallengeChallenge
Shakes Mashaba charges Bafana Bafana registered a 1-0 win over Egypt in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Orlando stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.
A goal from Mpho Makola was enough to win it for Bafana as they registered their 3rd straight win in the annual cup that is in honor of the late former state President Nelson Mandela.

Egypt were the first one to attempt goal in the 5th minute when Mohamed Salah received a pass and saw his shot saved by Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune to deny the Egyptian a goal.

Two minutes later, Mpho Makola scored through a header after receiving a cross from Mandla Masango after a counter attack that found Makola alone to have a soft header.

Makola should have scored his second before half time as he saw his shot saved by Essam Elhadary to deny the midfielder his brace.
The Pharoahs came back into the second half with intentions to equalize but their chances didn’t bear fruits as Itumeleng Khune and his defense kept them at bay. In the 67th minute the Egyptians should have equalized but Mohamed Abdelshafy shot went wide off the post.
Four minutes later another chance went off the post as Abdallah Elsaid didn’t connect clearly with the ball.

Bafana midfielders, Keegan Dolly , Mandla Masango , Dean Furman and Andile Jali controlled the midfield park with Jali putting a brave and splendid performance on the day.

Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba, substituted striker Thamsanqa Gabuza for Sifiso Vilakazi , Keegan Dolly for Hlompho Kekana and Abbubaker Mobara limped off the field with Sandile Hlanti replacing him.

Bafana succumbed to the pressure and held on to the solitary goal to win the match.
