PSL : University of Pretoria sink Arrows to earn a playoff spot
Amatuks ended the 2015/16 season on a high after sinking Golden Arrows 2 – 1 at Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Golden Arrows went into the game looking for a win to secure their top eight spot and hoping that Orlando Pirates beat SuperSport or atleast a draw.
Meanwhile University of Pretoria were second from the bottom.
Amatuks as well were looking for a win to secure a playoff spot or avoid relegation completely if Jomo Cosmos and Maritzburg United played to a draw.
Jomo Cosmos lost out in the end after been relegated to the NFD following a late 3 -1 defeat at home against Maritzburg United.
Amatuks took the lead from a free kick in the 29th minute when Ntombayetheti headed past Golden Arrows keeper Maxamilian Mbaeva.
Tristyn Coetsee Tuks number keeper pulled off two great save, first by getting down well to keep Frank Mhango’s shot and later on he saved a great shot from Gladwin Shitolo.
On the 39th minute Kwanele Hlongwane shot from range going wide as Golden Arrows tried to force themselves back into the game.
Amatuks second their second goal against run of play in the first half when Kebede’s freekick seemed to have gone passed the keeper into the net.
The was a hint of an own goal but Amatuks were happy regardless as all goals counted.
Abafana Bes’thende pulled one goal back through Shitolo in stoppage time but it was late for them to secure a top eight finish.
