NFD: Sunday match wrap
NFD is hotting up with Baroka FC losing a home game
Baroka FC 0-1 FC Cape Town
It was a game of missed chances for Baroka FC, who missed the services of top goal scorer, the injured Thabiso Kutumela. After the home side had peppered the FC Cape Town goal for most of the afternoon, the African Beasts performed a late smash and grab thanks to Simphiwe Gwala’s added time goal.
Royal Eagles 3-0 African Warriors
Royal Eagles were in command throughout the game at the Harry Gwala Stadium. The win was inspired by a brace from Katlego Mphela, one of his goals a penalty, George Sedwyn having netted Eagles’ first as the KZN side moved fourth, behind Highlands Park only on goal difference, while African Warriors find themselves in the drop zone.
Mbombela United 3-1 AmaZulu
The home side, buoyed by a capacity crowd at the KaNyamazane Stadium, ended a run of four consecutive draws in style as they put Usuthu to the sword. The visitors scored first when Zaid Patel pounced on a loose ball from close range after 10 minutes.
But Mbombela hit back with a goal from Sifiso Thomo to make it 1-1 at the break before a Victor Shongwe penalty after a Robyn Johannes hand-ball and then a goal by Phetolo Sekome secured maximum points for the Mpumalanga team.
