NedbankCup : Supersport United, Orlando Pirates Preview

Supersport United will host Orlando Pirates at the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15: 00 on Saturday 


The 2015/2016 season has been one filled with surprises to many.

Not much separates the two sides in the 2015/2016 encounter of the Nedbank Cup Final.

Encounters between Supersport United and Orlando Pirates are always entertaining with both teams giving it they are all.

The two teams have played 33 games since the 2004/2005 season.

Orlando Pirates have a slim advantage as they have won 14 games while Supersport United won 13 with 6 draws.

Goals are never an issue when this two sides meet, so far Orlando Pirates has scored 39 goals while Supersport United scored 36

In all league cup competitions, the two have met seven times with the Buccaneers having a slight advantage with four wins against three for Superport

SuperSport have won the Nedbank Cup three times, with their most recent triumph occurring in 2012 (adding to triumphs in 1999 and 2005) when they beat local rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

Matsatsantsa reached the semifinals of last season’s Nedbank Cup before they were beaten 2-1 by eventual runners-up Ajax Cape Town.

Pirates have won the Nedbank Cup eight times and were champions as recently as 2014. They were also runners-up in 1971, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1984, 1998 and 2006.

The last time this two sides met at the very same Peter Mokaba Stadium in the same Nedbank cup it was at the last 16 stage and Supersport came out tops with a 1 – 0 win.

The last seven games of the season Orlando Pirates has lost two games, one to Platinum Stars and the other to Chippa United, while  lost to Bidvest Wits at home.

In the last game of the season, the two sides played to a 2- 2 draw to ensured that they booked their top eight spots

In that game, it was evident that both sides lost concentration at critical times and they were very sloppy at the back.

Both Coaches are hoping that those mistakes will be corrected and all players will concentrate 200%.

The buccaneer’s faithful will be pinning their hope on Tendai ” Fire ” Ndoro while Supersport will be looking to Jeremy Brockie.

Both teams had a chance to training at the host stadium yesterday.
