NedbankCup : Baxter wary of wounded Swallows

Moroka Swallows may be rooted to the foot of the NFD table, but SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter will be taking nothing for granted when they meet in a Nedbank Cup last 32 tie on Tuesday.

The match takes place at the Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday night, 19H30 kick off, with one other game also scheduled for the same time: Jomo Cosmos v AmaZulu, Olen Park Stadium.

Baxter has had experienced mix fortunes since taking over from Gordon Igesund at SuperSport a couple of months back.

But he believes his side are on the right track and is hoping a strong run in the Nedbank Cup will ignite Matsatsantsa’s season further.

However, he remains wary of a Swallows side battling for survival in the National First Division.

“I see the improvement in the structure of the team from week to week. This is an opportunity for the players to show that they are better than the results this season.

“Beware the man with nothing to lose. The difference between us and Swallows is not that great,” Baxter said.

Birds coach, and legendary goalkeeper Greg Etafia, who is in charge of the team with Goodman Mazibuko, admits his side are not favourites, but is willing his players on to give it their all.

“Being a coach is making me strong. To be amongst the players here is one joy I have. Things haven’t been going well on the pitch because of our NFD position, but this is a cup game and a once off. We will give our best.”
