Nedbank Cup : Orlando Pirates road to the final
The Buccaneers are looking to repeat the heroics of 2014 by winning the Nedbank Cup and book themselves a spot in the CAF interclub competition
Pirates have won the Nedbank Cup eight times and were champions as recently as 2014. They were also runners-up in 1971, 1976, 1977, 1981, 1984, 1998 and 2006.
On the road to the final Orlando Pirates only played one of the four games at home and it was against their arch rivals in the last 32 stages.
The Buccaneers have proofed that they are good travelers in this cup competition.
Orlando Pirates got their campaign against the arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs and they managed to dispose of Amakhosi 2 – 0 courtesy of Tendai ” Fire ” Ndoro brace.
The buccaneer were then drawn against Jomo Cosmos who had beat them 1 – 0 in the league but revenge was sweet as the team from Soweto beat them 1 -3.
It didn’t get any easier in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup as Orlando Pirates were drawn against the team of the season, the red-hot Mamelodi Sundowns.
The game against Mamelodi Sundowns, the buccaneers showed character with 10 men on the field they beat the Brazilians 0 -2 with Tendai ” Fire” Ndoro and Mpho “Bibo” Makola scoring.
In th same final the Buccaneers were assigned a huge task of playing against Free State Stars at Gobler Park.
It was a rainy day but the buccaneers made sure it was raining goals as they came out top with four goals.
In the entire run-up to the final Orlando Pirates has conceded only three goals and scoring eleven goals .
Orlando Pirates will be banking on Ndoro, Rakhale, Makola and Memela to deliver the trophy home
