Tuesday night saw the completion of the 2016 Nedbank Cup round of 16 as SuperSport United became the last team to book their place in the quarter-finals after beating AmaTuks.

Matsatsantsa joined Baroka FC, Bidvest Wits, Free State Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City in the quarter-final draw set to take place this Thursday.

Here are some of the important numbers from the last 16:

1 – The number of games which went to penalties (SuperSport overcame Tuks 4-2 on penalties after the score had been locked at 3-3 after extra time).

1 – The number of NFD or lower league teams still in the tournament. Baroka FC are the last club standing after Mbombela United lost to Sundowns, Santos were edged out by Free State Stars, and Magesi FC fell to Bidvest Wits.

2 – Tendai Ndoro scored two goals in Pirates’ 3-1 win over Cosmos, taking him to four in total for the competition, the joint highest goal scorer so far.

2 – There were two red cards: Siphiwe Sithole (Platinum Stars) and Thabo Molefe (Golden Arrows).

3 – The number of games that went into extra time.

4’ – The number of goals scored in one game by a single player – Daine Klate netting four for the Clever Boys.

6 – Two games produced six goals (excluding penalty shoot-outs) as Bidvest Wits gave Second Division side Magesi FC a 6-0 lesson, while SuperSport and AmaTuks each scored three in their encounter at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

10 – The quickest goal in the round of 16 was scored after 10 minutes by Polokwane City’s Muzikayifani Ngidi in their 2-1 win at Platinum Stars.

28 – The total number of goals scored (excluding penalty shoot-outs) in the eight Last 16 Nedbank Cup matches. This is on average 3.5 goals per match.
