PSL : Lucky Lekgwathi hangs up his boots

Orlando Pirates former captain Lucky Lekgwathi has officially announced his retirement from competitive football after 14 years with Pirates.

Lucky.The player received a warm farewell from the club and current club players and was handed a signed framed club shirt by current club captain Oupa Manyisa before their league encounter against Golden Arrows.

The defender was thanked by Pirates media spokesperson Thandi Merafe who applauded Lucky for his excellent service at and being one of the most successful captains at the club.

Thandi furthermore stated that the club is happy to have worked with him and he continues to be the part of the family at the club. She wished Lucky good luck in his future endeavors.

When asked about his future after such incredible years at the club the player states that he is celebrating his retirement with the club on the night and will see in the future.

The player expressed that he will miss the traveling with the club, singing in the bus with teammates and playing with the boys but will keep giving the guys much needed advice.

He furthermore stated that he will support the current crop of players the club has and support the club coach.

He expressed that his most memorable moment with the club was leading the club to back to back trebles with the club and his first Pirates goal in his first season with the club against Dynamos is one to remember.

He furthermore stated that winning the league with the club in his first season is one he will always cherish.

He credited his success to the club chairman Irvin Khoza who has played such a huge role in his career as he wasn’t only his boss but a mentor and father.

He also thanked the club’s women like, Thandi Merafe, Mama Mantwa but spoke highly of the support from his wife who always encouraged him to look after himself and prepared him a good diet to stay in shape.

The former Pirates captain applauded his mother and sister who have always been there for him and always advised him to work hard and concentrate on the positives and to ignore the negatives.

He furthermore thanked the Pirates supporters for always supporting him and other clubs supporters who always called him to praise him on the how he handles himself and what an exceptional player he is.

The player went on to thank the media for always writing good stories about him.
