Dzakaroski FC are through to the knockout stages of the Walter Sisulu Discovery Tournament after playing to a 0-0 draw against tournament favourites Zola All Stars in a high tense game at Nike stadium in Soweto.
The game dubbed the Zola derby saw one of the largest crowd in Soweto come to watch the game.
The first chance of the game fell through to Dzakaroski’s striker Bebeto who received a ball and turned to beat the All Stars defense only to shoot wide.
Zola immediately attacked and striker Figo failed to connect with the ball after receiving a neat pass from Ngozi.
Dzakaroski started being a menace and their winger Popeye proved too much for the Zola defense to deal with.
On the other hand All Stars winger Jeco had the fans raving every time he had the ball alongside fellow winger Messi, who’s runs troubled the Dzakaroski defense marshaled by Mbuso and Kwaito.
The second half started with high intense as both team showed hunger and brought in substitutions to stabilize the game.
Zola All Stars brought in the likes of Giggs and Schneider to increase their chance of scoring but that never materialized.
While Dzakaroski brought in the likes of former Kaizer Chiefs striker into the game who looked a shadow of himself.
Zola All Stars were thrown a lifeline late in the game after a neat interchange between Jeco and Messi that saw the referee award a penalty after the ball hit the Dzakaroski defender’s hand much to the joy of the Zola All Stars fans.
That brought the game to a temporary stop as the fans from Dzakaroski flooded into the pitch baying for the referees blood.
After a squabble and the penalty awarded due to be taken, with much anticipation from the fans.
Giggs stepped up to the spot in what was a make or break for All Stars.
The striker missed the penalty that could have sent All Stars through.
The draw means that Soweto All Stars are out of the tournament.
