INFANTINO ARRIVES YAOUNDE FOR OPENING GAME OF CHAN 2020
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has arrived Yaounde on Friday morning ahead of kick-off of the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN), Cameroon 2020.
Interim CAF President Constant Omari met Infantino on arrival at the Nsimalem International Airport ahead of Saturday’s start of the tournament for home-based players in Africa.
Omari was accompanied by Cameroon Football Federation President Seydou Mbombo Njoya and Africa football legend Samuel Eto’o as they met Infantino on his first visit to the Central African country.
Infantino is expected to attend Friday’s CAF Executive Committee meeting before witnessing the event to crown Issa Hayatou as the honorary President of CAF.
The FIFA President will be present at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde for the opening CHAN match between Cameroon and Zimbabwe.
The 6th edition of the African Nations Championship, a biennial football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) exclusively featuring players from the respective national championships.
It was originally hosted from 4 to 25 April 2020 in Cameroon. However, CAF announced on 17 March 2020 that the tournament had been postponed to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 30 June CAF announced that the tournament would be held in January and February 2021
Host nation Cameroon has agreed to let football fans attend matches ahead of the forthcoming sixth edition of the African Nations Championships (CHAN).
