Maloka FC were strong contenders for the championship after being hammered 3-1 in Penalties by Mabuela FC on the finals of Mogalakwane Platinum Soccer Festival and then walked away with R40 000.00 prize money.
The runners up of the tournament Maloka FC, caught many by surprised when they went all they way to the finals. Maloka FC showed character, when they equalized 2 all draw from trailing 2 -0 on the first half of the game.
Speaking to Maloka FC team manager and member of the organizing committee Abram “Lesiba” Sejeng “It was a huge tournament for soccer development, the local teams and a successful one indeed.
All teams from Mapela and surrounding villages, gave their best but we can have only one winner. Football was topic of the day, talent displayed and communities were out in numbers supporting their teams. It was like a dream come true for our people.”
He further spoke about losing to Mabuela FC on the finals ” I had mix feelings when we lost to Mabuela but I was proud that I was part of the team that many wrote off.
The journey to the finals was not easy, we know we lost to a best team and it is a great achievement for our team to have gotten this far. Coming from behind to equalize to 2 all, that showed that our team has improved and now we can see that our players has a bright future.” he explained
“I would like to thank all local organizers, Mapela Community, sponsors, my team, all teams that participated and supporters that showed great sportsmanship throughout the tournament.” he concluded.
