Maize Cup : Fabian McCarthy: I am not a celebrity

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy says he is not a celebrity but a people’s servant

FabbyMcCarthy says there are more rough diamonds in the North West and they need people like him to be part of the coaching clinics to discover such talents.

He furthermore said this after the Masters game ahead of Platinum Stars game which is expected to start at 15h00 at Moruleng stadium this afternoon.

Dikwena will take on Orlando Pirates in the pre-season match known as Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup.

McCarthy applauded the Bokone Bophirima Provincial government for organizing such an event.

He stated that he is not a celebrity, but he a community servant

“I believe I am not a celebrity but a role model, If you are a role model you need to behave like one and people will start following you.” Said the former Amakhosi defender.

He emphasized the importance of having discipline as a player.

He said if a player is determined he will behave responsibly.

“Some of the players end up being hooked to the substances and we can’t blame anyone for that behaviour. As a player, you need to be responsible.” Added McCarthy.

He also said he is determined in being part of the people who will search for talents in the Bokone Bophirima province since he came through the ranks of school football.

He added that he was very happy to see former players such as Lovers Mohlala, Lucky Xaba, Bricks Mudau, Aubrey Lekoane,Jacob Tshisevhe, Bongani Cashibe, Chippa Masinga (Maize Cup Ambassador), Thabiso Rameile and many more.

He said it could have been a bonus to see others such as Brendan Silent and Joseph Ngake who couldn’t make it.

McCarthy concluded by saying he can’t wait for the domestic PSL season to resume as all eyes will also be on the new teams such as Baroka FC and Highlands Park who just got promoted.

“These new teams has a lot to do because the PSL is not similar to the NFD.”

“Pirates will have something to show off today and so are the hosts Platinum Stars who will battle it out for the ultimate Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup.”

” It will not be about how you begin but it’s how you conclude your race.”
