EPL : Marcus Rashford Manchester United’s player of the month
The new Manchester United wonder kid
He may have only played 170 minutes during February, but it was enough to earn Marcus Rashford Manchester United’s player of the month award.
The 18-year-old was fast-tracked into the first-team squad after injuries to Wayne Rooney and then Anthony Martial left Louis van Gaal short of options.
The teenager scored four goals in his first two appearances for the club as he made an instant impression at Old Trafford.
The striker was handed his professional debut against Europa League opponents Midtjylland after Martial suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-match warm-up.
Rashford responded with a second-half double as United charged into the Last 16 with a 6-3 victory on aggregate over the Danish side.
Van Gaal kept faith with his new striking sensation for the following game against Arsenal, and Rashford responded in kind.
He scored two goals in four first-half minutes as van Gaal’s men recorded a 3-2 win over their top four rivals.
Rashford’s success comes in the face of United’s own travails in February as they struggled for consistency, suffering a particularly damaging Premier League defeat by Sunderland.
Though they secured safe passage into the sixth round of the FA Cup they fell to an embarrassing loss in the first-leg against Midtjylland before a comprehensive win in the return, thanks to Rashford.
