ES Setif disqualified and the game against Sundowns scrapped
ES Setif Supporter interpreted the game that was later stopped for the safety of player with 2 minutes to go
Following the regrettable incidents in the match no.98 ES Setif (Algeria) vs Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), accounting for the edition 2016 of the Orange Champions League and CAF have forced the referee to stop the match before the end, the Organising Committee for Interclub Competitions CAF decided to apply the provisions of Chapter XII para 3 of the regulations of the Champions League CAF and consider the team ES Setif and loser eliminated from the competition, without prejudice to other penalties that may be imposed by the Disciplinary Panel of CAF.
Indeed, match officials have found such a pitch invasion, and numerous missile throwing, stones, bottles and firecrackers, causing a number of casualties among the spectators and the security forces.
Chapter XII para 3 of the competition regulations states: “If the referee is forced to stop the match before its prescribed purpose due to a pitch invasion or aggression against the visiting team, the host team shall be considered loser and shall be eliminated from the competition, notwithstanding the sanctions provided by the statutes and regulations. ”
On the outcome of that match, it is canceled in accordance with the spirit of Article XI.13 of the regulations stipulating that: “If a team withdraws after the start of the group matches played without half the group matches the overall results of meetings which the team participated is canceled. ”
