CAF : Amakhosi trash Volcan Club 0 – 4 in Comoros
Amakhosi draw first blood at Stade de Moroni in Comoros by beating Volcan Club 4 – 0
Chiefs two minor injuries to their match day squad with Reneilwe Letsholonyaneout and George Lebese, who is still recovering from a niggling groin injury. The was no Itumeleng Khune in the match day squad.
The games was played n a hot and humid conditions in Moroni plus the field used was unfimilar with Kaizer Chiefs as it was on AstroTurf, instead of the normal grass pitches that soccer matches are usually played on in South Africa.
Kaizer Chiefs showed that they are champions when they picked up victory in Comoros. Volcan Club where brushed aside by easily 4-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round at the Stade de Moroni on Sunday afternoon. The goals were scored by Bernard Parker, Sula Matovu and a brace from Erick Mathoho.
Parker opened the score in the tenth minute with a long range shot from outside the box. It was a beauty.
Amakhosi were clearly the better side, putting the Comorian side under continuous pressure.
Mathoho added another when he headed in a free kick taken by Parker, who had a fine game, after Camaldine Abraw was fouled outside the box.
The game went into the break with Kaizer chiefs leading 2-0.
Defender Mathoho found the back of the net again after a free-kick taken by Siphiwe Tshabalala created confusion in Volcan’s box. Mathoho tapped the ball in from close range.
Substitute Sula Matovu, who had come on for Tshabalala, also netted, finishing well from a pass supplied by Togolese striker Abraw.
It was a well-deserved win by the Amakhosi on the road in a hot and humid Moroni.
This preliminary round of the CAF Champions League is played over two legs. The second leg is scheduled to take place in South Africa at the Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium. The date is set for Saturday, 27 February and tickets are already on sale.
