Zamalek Players fined over missed penalty

Three Zamalek players fined following the 3-2 defeat by arch rivals

Zamalek winger Mahmoud Kahraba was handed a hefty LE300,000 fine for his insistence to take a penalty during 3-2 loss to Cairo rivals Ahly in the Egyptian Super Cup.

Kahraba missed the chance to put Zamalek 2-0 up in the first half when his weak spot kick was saved by Ahly keeper Sherif Ekramy.

He insisted to take the penalty that he won despite a furious reaction from Zamalek’s Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira on the touchline.

Attacking midfielder Mohamed Ibrahim was fined LE150,000 for “refusing to obey his coach” while skipper Hazem Emam was fined LE100,000 for entering the field when he clashed with Ahly players.

Zamalek, who clinched both the Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup trophies this season, gave Ferreira a vote of confidence after Sunday’s board meeting.
