WomenT20 : “There is always room for improvement” – du Preez
The Momentum Proteas women are looking forward to taking on the West Indies in the second women’s Twenty20 (T20) at the Bidvest Wanderers on Sunday. The home side, who are one-nil up in the three-match series, are keen to maintain the winning momentum.
Captain, Mignon du Preez is pleased with the manner in which the team performed, specifically the bowling unit, but believes that there is always room for improvement ahead the next game, for the batters in particular.
“One of our aims going into the first game was to get the series off to a winning start,” she said. “In the past, we had a tendency of not winning the first one and having to fight back very strong.
Our mental approach was slightly different this time and it worked for us.
“There is always room for improvement,” she continued. “Our bowling department did really well to defend our total, but the batting unit still has room for improvement. I want to see us bat more positively and in the middle periods, I would like us to really go after the boundaries a lot more than we have done in the recent past.
“The three disciplines need to come together more fluidly. I would love for us to have a really good day with the bat, the ball and the fielding.”
South Africa had a lot to celebrate, including a maiden T20 international victory over the Windies. Du Preez said that this has done wonders for the morale of the team and strengthens their resolve to wrap up the series.
“It’s a wonderful confidence booster,” she commented. “The girls were really excited and it’s yet another milestone to add for us as a team. We definitely want to ensure that we start making winning a habit, so hopefully tomorrow we can put in another strong performance and clinch the series.”
Play starts at 09:30, with the match broadcast live on SuperSport 2.
