VaristyFootball :UJ loss to CUT good wakeup call ahead of the Gauteng derby
The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) loss to Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein was a good wakeup call early on in the tournament. The two teams had faced each other last season, UJ coming through on top.
There was obvious unfinished business from the Bloemfontein side but the UJ team inclusive of the technical team believe this could be what UJ really needs to put in the work, and learn from their mistakes after falling 1-0 to the Bloem outfit.
UJ coach, Mandla Zwane shared his thoughts about the game.
“CUT taught us a lesson and traveling to Pretoria on Thursday, we will make things very unpleasant,” said the coach. “The University of Pretoria beat us last season, in Soweto and we aware of the past games, stats and history, but it shall only motivate, drive and inspire good spirit throughout the camp.”
It’s inevitable that there’s great talent amongst the eight teams participating in the 2017 Varsity Football season. With the development programs in place to equip and build professionals, fans are guaranteed competitive university football.
The Gauteng derby will most definitely be the game to watch, with University of Pretoria (UP) two-time winners versus two-time runners up, UJ football team. There’s pressure to start well from UJ’s side and the fans can’t wait to see how UJ will deal with the pressure and win points. UP-Tuks had a good start in the opener and will look forward to bringing up the good results.
Tuks look be clear favourites on Thursday, 3rd August, but will UJ earn three points away from home? It’s a must-see at Tuks Stadium, Pretoria. The match kicks off at 18:30.
