VaristyFootball :UFH with a mammoth task ahead
With the first match gone, some lessons were hard-learnt by the men from Alice, with what was a rather poor start to their 2017 Varsity Football campaign. Some hard work needs to be done if they are to earn a maiden win. With no goals hitting the back of the net, there is a nervousness about what to expect from Thursday’s game.
“In all honesty, this was not the kind of start that we had in mind, nor is it a culture that we intend on keeping,” said Head Coach Charles Hanyani.
“Losing home games is not a way of getting your home support behind you, so as a team, a win at home will go a long way in ensuring that our crowd is with us.
“Also, it’s a great place to gather momentum, given that after this game we are on the road for three games.”
The University of Fort Hare will be taking on Tshwane University of Technology in Alice, but this time the stakes are high. The match will be live on SuperSport and the home team has yet another chance to redeem themselves and show their home crowd that lessons have been learnt
“We can’t afford to make the same mistakes game after game, season after season, we need to show that we have grown, we need to take a stand in the Varsity Football campaign this year as there are no free rides here, so come Thursday expect new energy with lots of fireworks,” said captain Siphamandla Zanekile.
With all things to play for, the men from Alice will have to dig deep and pitch up ready to fight guns blazing. This will be one game they have to win if they wish to gather momentum before it’s too late.
University of Fort Hare will play Tshwane University of Technology in Alice at Davidson Stadium, at 16:00 on 3 August, live on SuperSport 4 and SuperSport Select.
