TransferNews : Jurgen Klopp and Mario Gotze could reunite
Mario Gotze has been linked with a move to Liverpool , a move that would make complete sense.
It’s fair to say that the Pep Guardiola era hasn’t worked out too well for Mario Gotze at Bayern Munich.
The former Dortmund midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular place with the Bundesliga champions and has grown frustrated during the past two years.
And now German paper Bild are reporting that he could be set for a reunion with former manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
He scored the winning goal in Germany’s World Cup Final win over Argentina in 2014.
Gotze, currently recovering from a groin injury, is out of contract in 2017 and the German publication reports that he could be available for €50million.
Jurgen Klopp is prepared to pay £37million summer bid to take Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old World Cup winner’s contract expires in 2017 and he has yet to open talks over a new one.
That means, remarkably, Klopp could land his former player – Gotze was brought through the ranks at Borussia Dortmund by the Reds boss – for a reduced fee.
Asked about a reunion, Gotze refused to commit his long-term future to Bayern.
He said: “I’m under contract here until 2017. We will see what happens. No-one has contacted me yet.”
He is currently injured and expected to be out of action until February meaning any approach won’t happen until the summer.
Carlo Ancelotti is set to succeed Guardiola this summer but Gotze is understood to be interested in a move as, by that point, he will have just a year left on his contract.
“Every day new nonsense comes along. That is all I am going to say on this. Not exactly saying ‘we want to keep him’ or ‘he’s important’ though is he.” said Bayern general manager Matthias Sammer
