Steve to face his assistant on the MTN 8 Cup

Defending champions Kaizer Chiefs will take on Maritzburg United in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 Cup at the FNB Stadium, Wednesday 5 August, kickoff 19:30.

This will be Steve Komphela’s debut as a Chiefs Coach in a PSL fixture, ironically against his recent former team. Newly appointed Maritzburg United Coach Mandla Ncikazi‚ was Komphela’s assistant last season‚ when Maritzburg enjoyed their first top-eight finish in nine PSL campaigns‚ finishing eighth.

“Very interesting, I was part of their DNA. It will be interesting to see how they come at us,” comments Komphela on the question of facing his former team. “I helped them build a winning team now, I have to beat them.”

For the first time in the South African football, the PSL Top 8 eight teams are coached by local coaches. That proves the confidence growing in our local coaches, that will put supporters in the helm and hoping that it will increase numbers at the stadium.
