Soweto teams to shine at Maimane Phiri Games |

Soweto’s best kasi football teams will participate in the annual Maimane Phiri games this season. The annual tournament held in Alexandra organized by football legend Maimane Alfred Phiri who hails from the neighborhood of Alex draw one of the most biggest crowds in football.

Defending champions Braamfischer Eagles will begin their campaign on the 24 June 2017 as they take on Comeboys at 13:00pm. While fan favorites Soweto All Stars will take on Lebash at 13:00pm and Kenza Football Club who will be taking part in the annual year tournament for the first time will start of against Newcastle Homeboys at 15:00pm. Sunday will see Black Poison take on Dalmany Young Chiefs at 13:00pm.

All teams have been preparing for the Alexandra based tournament by participating in other tournaments and winning most of the tournaments. Black Poison were recently crowned champions of the SFA league, got promoted  to the SAB League and winning tournaments to the build up to the Maimane games. Kenza Football Club were crowded champions of the inauguration of the Ace Motsororo games beating Black Poison in a penalty shootout after playing to a 1 all draw. Maimane Phiri games defending champions Braamfischer Eagles have been participating in weekly tournaments and winning most of them and will look to do well in the tournament as well. Soweto All Stars are known of producing magic as they are favourites  in every tournament they participate have assembled a good team with a good technical team as they brought Moroka Swallows legend Joel “Ace” Mnini as their head coach.  

Black Poison coach Rulani Mokwena has always expressed his desire to lift the prestigious tournament named and held by former Bafana Bafana international Maimane Alfred Phiri. The tournament has in recent times seen PSL teams sign players straight from the games. 2016/2017 PSL top goal scorer Lebogang Manyama who also comes from Alex is one player to have come from the MAP games.
