Soweto Kasi football teams from Soweto, took part at the annual Maimane Alfred Phiri tournament this weekend in Alexandra township.

Both teams started on a winning note respectively.

Soweto All Stars started their campaign with a 3-1 over Juventus on Saturday afternoon.

The Soweto outfit started well and showed the fans that they are at the tournament to compete.

The side had quality players in their radar with the likes of Linda “Tsiki” Shiba of Polokwane City and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Khethokwakhe “Pereza” Masuku pulling magical moments for the team.

The team didn’t lack any flair and showed maturity every time they went in their attack.

Their defenders covered and defended their department quite well.

Juventus moved forward in attack but All Stars goal minder Jeff denied them scoring opportunities by pulling brilliant saves.

The match ended at 3-1 in favour of All Stars.

Black Poison took on Bombers which was to be the last match of the Sunday evening.

SSS as they are known, came only with a winning mentality.

The side attacked and defended as a unit.

Their midfielders proved too strong for Bombers to contain as they controlled the game from all angles.

The side started off with a quality team that went into attack and their strikers showed hunger in front of goal posts and they didn’t disappoint as they managed to put two goals past the Bombers keeper.

Former Free State Stars Sipho “Sgobe” Moeti was on the score sheet with Bomber grabbing a consolation goal.

The ever sensational Sgobe scored a beautiful goal that had fans clapping in applaud for him.

The striker could be a surprise signing in the transfer window as teams are looking to beef up their squads.

The teams will go into their second games with a boost after their first wins and will build on the winning momentum and to qualify for the knockout stages.
