Rhulani Mokwena to face Downs|
Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena will come face to face with his former club Mamelodi Sundowns since joining the Buccaneers at the start of the season.
Mourinho as he is known had a successful stint at Sundowns along side Downs coach Pitso Mosimane and club assistant coach Manqoba. The trio known as MMM led Mamelodi Sundowns to CAF Champions winners and won almost every trophy domestically.
He is regarded as a master tactician. He reading of the game and his way of motivating players is highly regarded by players who have played under him. Before joining Downs, Mokwena had a stint at Platinum Stars and was instrumental in the building of the team that went on to win the MTN8 championship and Telkom Cup.
Orlando Pirates chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza is believed to be an admirer of Mokwena and pulled one to lure him to the Pirates ship. The assistant is believed to be groomed to take reigns at Pirates one day. His bloodline is of the Sono clan and he didn’t have to think hard when he was approached by the Pirates and that was one of the reasons he jumped ship.
Orlando Pirates head coach Micho holds the assistant coach very high and is believed to have an influence in Rhulani joining the club as he asked the club to have him as his assistant before joining Pirates. He is a big fan of Mokwena and always had a wish to work with him.
“It is going to be difficult to come across Downs and old friends on the day as I learnt so much while at club but it will be business on the day” stated Mokwena.
