Public Memorial Service of the late Ted Dumitru

Ted1Members of the media and the public are on Thursday, 02 June 2016 invited to the memorial service of the late Ted Dumitru, who passed away on May 26 2016 at the age of 76.

Born in Romania, Dumitru went on to coach four African national teams – South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland and Namibia.

His first club coaching venture in South Africa came in 1986, when he took charge of Kaizer Chiefs. He was also to coach at Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. In total he won four league championships, two with Chiefs and two with Sundowns, also achieving great success in cup competitions, while taking the Brazilians to the final of the CAF Champions league in 2001.

In short, the ‘Professor’ was much-loved and well respected across the South African footballing fraternity for his massive contribution to the game in this country. He was involved in recent years in the development and coaching side of the game.
