PSL : Supersport United, Chippa United share the spoils

Supersport and Chippa share the spoils at Peter Mokaba Stadium yesterday.

Supersport United hosted Chippa United in an ABSA Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane. Both team started well well with Matsatsantsa a Pitori attacking from the first minute in the 4th minute from a Kingston Nkatha shot from outside the box to force Chippa United Ayanda to fumble a not threatening shot.

Chippa United attacked in the 12th minute down the wing with Mario Booysen producing a brilliant tackle to deny Chippa United a shot and considered the 1st corner of the game. A 16th minute tap in shot from Joseph Malingoane put the Chilli Boys ahead after receiving a pass from Diamond Topola. Supersport United kept putting pressure and we’re nearly rewarded when Jeremy Brockie unleashed a thunderous shot from outside the box only for Chippa United shot stopper pulling another save to force a corner.

The Chilli Boys defence was caught flat-footed. In the 23th minutes, Chippa United put pressure on Supersport as Manzini received a the ball only to put his shot in the sky. Chippa United started to enjoy the possession as they patiently built up their attacks. Nkatha unleashed another shot in the 33th minute with Ayanda pulling another save with Dove Wome pacing up to finish but Walter Maponyane kicked the ball outside to concede another corner.

Another attack from Chippa saw Sali take a shot at Williams after a counter attack for a corner. Supersport United kept pushing with another attack from Brockie only for his shot to go wide off the post. Michael Morton attacked from the wing only for his effort to be headed out by Diamond Topola for another corner. In the 43 minute a Supersport cross was ruled out for a corner with Supersport United players crying foal for a penalty. A Thuso Phala shot from outside hit Okwuosa for the referee to point it to the spot for a penalty. Kingston Nkatha stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake to level matters.

The first half ended level at one all.

Both teams came back from where they left off and it was a battle in the middle. On loan striker David Zulu came in for Andale Mbenyane in the 60th minute for the Chilli Boys. Luvo Mpeta received a yellow card in the 71st minute after careless tackle. Chippa kept attacking but didn’t make use of the chances received. A counter attack in the 73th minutes for Supersport could have resulted in a goal after Thuso Phala blasted with pace only for his cross to be blocked. Chippa United were unlucky not to be awarded with a penalty in the 74th minutes after Malingoane beat Clayton Daniels for pace and pushed  inside the penalty box and the referee awarding a corner.

A cross for the Chilli Boys was  headed by David Zulu and hit Supersport United captain arm and only for the referee to award another corner. Another counter attack from Supersport United went to waste after Thuso Phala laid a perfect pass for Brockie to shoot wide. The Chilli Boys could have wrapped up the game in the 80th minute but a perfect chance was wasted by Mbokome after receiving a perfect pass from man of the match Malingoane only for his shot to go wide.

The game ended 1 all with Chippa losing out on winning their first match against Supersport ever.
