Despite their win, Rise and Shine remained 13th on the Absa Premiership standings, while the Chill Boys also stayed seventh on the league table.

The match started fairly evenly, with both teams having a share of possession in the opening stages of the league encounter.

The first shot on target came from Simphiwe Hlongwane whose set-piece was easily gathered by Chippa goalkeeper Ayanda Masiko in the 15th minute.

Polokwane were awarded a free-kick just outside the Chippa box nine minutes later. Thobani Mncwango stepped up and fired over the crossbar from the set-piece.

Mncwango, who is Rise and Shine’s leading goalscorer this season, forced Masiko into great one-handed save from another set-piece two minutes before the half-hour mark.

In the 36th minute, Polokwane defender Carlington Nyadombo received the ball inside the Chippa box unmarked, but James Okwuosa did well to block the former’s shot.

Rise and Shine were dominating possession and keeping the Chilli Boys defence busy. Nevertheless, the first-half ended goalless.

The opening fifteen minutes of the second-half were quiet as the two sides struggled to maintain possession in the final third and create clear-cut opportunities.

The visitors made the first change of the game when they pulled out Sandile Zuke for Zaphaniah Mbokoma a minute after the hour-mark.

In the 65th minute, Joseph Molangoane pulled the trigger from range and his effort failed to trouble Zimbabwean goalkeeper George Chigova in Polokwane goal-posts.

But Chigova was forced into a decent save seven minutes later and it was Chippa forward Andile Mbenyane who had unleashed good shot from the edge of the Polokwane box.

Nevertheless, Mncwango snatched a late winner with a left-footed shot which beat Masiko hands down in the 89th minute and Polokwane won 1-0 on the day.
