PSL : Eric Tinkler’s submission on the loss against Downs

Supersport United lost the 9th Tshwane Derby in a row against Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The last time Supersport beat Mamelodi Sundowns it was in the 2012/13 season courtesy of their former player Doutie solitary goal

SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler stated that “We started off the first half with a particular problem as we were afraid of Tau and Billiat’s pace but gradually we built up”

” As the half progressed we dropped deeper and deeper”

“We gave them too much space as we played deeper and you know Sundowns are good on the ball but we dealt with that” stated Tinkler.

“We had good chances but failed to convert on the clear chance we got”, he expressed  We played much better after trying to fix the mistakes we had and Rowan had only one save

” We played much better after trying to fix the mistakes we had and Rowan had only one save until they scored their 1st goal but they got a second through a counter”

” At that stage of the game  I think we had the momentum as we attacked and Dennis Onyango came to their rescue and we hit the post, also hit the crossbar” stated Eric.

He further more expressed that the reaction he got from his players in the second half was fantastic.

“They gave their best but luck was not on their side. Losing Dean Furman through a red was a blow for us but with made a few substitution to keep pushing” stated Tinkler.

” I was not impressed with our defense in the first half as we gave Sundowns too much space to play and attack us with their mobile players like Tau and Percy. ”

“We allowed Hlompho Kekana and Oupa Manyisa to play in the center of the park and created chances for them” stated Tinkler.

“It is now back to the drawing board and it’s still early and we’ll bounce back.” He concluded
