PSL : Celtics and Pirates supporters clash
Orlando Pirates claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night to move up to seventh on the Absa Premiership standings, but Supporters chaos take center stage.
Midfielder Mpho Makola scored the only goal of the game early in the second half, with the Buccaneers holding on to claim a victory which sees them move to 29 points from 21 matches. Phunya Sele Sele remain in 12th with 22 points from 21 matches.
As opposed to Europe and other foreign countries security personnel can be seen with the back toward the field of play but in South Africa, PSL security personnel and Police force can be seen seating comfortably watching the match.
It is alleged that buses that were meant to transport Siwelele fans to the stadium where cancelled at the last minute by management and that angered Fans to a point that they threatened to boycott the game. During the run up to the match the has being unhappiness from Siwelele supporters towards Celtic Management as they felt they are not recognized.
The topic of the of the night at Orlando stadium, was chaos which erupted between Bloemfontein Celtic and Orlando Pirates fans, during the chaos fans were throwing objects at each other. Later on they pulled the chairs and threw them at each other.
Pirates fans outnumbered the Siwelele fans. Celtic fans eventually climbed the steps running away from the buccaneers crowd who were no longer paying attention to the teams playing on the field.
It is alleged that it was Celtic fans who began this chaos by throwing a bottle on the field and later on threw a “Heineken” bottle.
What broke the camel back was that Ayanda Gcaba was hit with an object and the Buccaneer took exception to that did and responded by throwing objects at Celtics which had one or two Chiefs fans on their side.
After this game some Siwelele fans were seen on the corridors of Orlando stadium bleeding.
As many went home some Celtic fans who seen carrying a lady who was crying due to pains on her legs following an object which was thrown at her.
The root of this chaos is not yet clear as both groups blame each other.
The PSL security personnel failed to deal with the crowd, some of them were women who ran away when the situation got out of hand.
“Its not for me to deal with the situation (crowd trouble). I felt the security could have intervened earlier” said Serame Letsoaka
“I understand the fans’ frustration because they are not used to our situation. But I ask them to be patient with us” he concluded
The investigation that was done revealed that some supporters bribe Security Personnel to bring in alcohol from outside into the stadium.
The question still remains how did a beer bottle enter the stadium?
Are the PSL security personnel well trained?
Should the PSL separate supporters to avoid any further conflicts?
If security personnel can be bribed to allow alcohol into the stadium what else could some supporters be bring into the stadium?
