PSL : Baxter disappointed by the shares spoils
Supersport United and Polokwane City share the spoils
Supersport united scuffle to secure a safe spot in the top 8 continues as they failed to collect maximum points when they played a 2-2 draw against Polokwane City on Sunday afternoon at Lucas Moripe stadium.
Baxter expressed his frustrations, saying it could have been a walk in the park win.
There was no hesitation that this game was going to be captivating as Supersport united is fighting for a secured sport in the top 8 with only two games to go.
The Limpopo side had nothing much to play for as they don’t stand a chance to be part of the top teams and they are safe from the relegation battle.
A well-played build up between Michael Morton, Bradley Grobbler and Dove Wome could have given Matsatsantsa a lead on the tenth minute.
A minute later Esau Kanyenda also received a great chance when he headed to Williams polls but was denied by a crossbar.
On the 32 minutes Dave Wome scored putting Supersport ahead from a suicidal defended cross from Thuso Phala.
City’s defence tried to clear the ball but Wome was faster in stretching his leg and had a slight touch.
On the second half Supersport seemed to be determined in increasing their tally as they kept on receiving chances from exploiting the spaces which were being opened by City’s troops.
In the 69 minute Kanyenda equalized bringing the Polokwane side back to the game.
However the celebration was spoiled by Dean Furman who scored a cracker outside the eighteen area leaving George Chigova standing still.
When Baxter’s man were almost confident that they have won the game, Tshepo Matsimela who came as a sub scored a beauty in the eighteen area from an impressive build up between Alexander, Maluleke and Matsimela.
The game ended by 2-2.
Speaking after this match Julio Leal he said, snatching a point from a good team like Supersport United is not that much poor.
“We started well against a good side which is fighting for a top 8, getting one point away is good for us”
On the other hand, Stuart Baxter’s face was written disappointments.
“This is really difficult. We gave away the game. We came well even to the second half and controlled the game. We could have snatched the winner in the closing moments. I’m very disappointed.” Concluded united mentor.
Supersport will face Mpumalanga Black Aces on Wednesday evening at Lucas Moripe stadium, while City will face the struggling University of Pretoria.
