Orlando Pirates are through to the quarter finals of the Telkom Knockout Challenge after defeating University of Pretoria 2-1 last night at Orlando stadium. Pirates were dominant in the first half of the game and showed character whenever they attacked through the flanks.

The first half ended with the Buccaneers in the lead. TUKS came back into the second half motivated and they were rewarded with a goal from Thabo Mnyamane who saw his header go past Felipe Ovono into the far corner.

Both teams showed the eagerness to win and TUKS  nearly went ahead in 57 minutes when Nyondo broke free through the middle but saw his shot going wide with only Ovono to beat. Pirates attacked and got a goal through Lehlohonolo Masalesa but the goal was ruled offside.

The game ended 1 all  ingame time and went through extra time. Pirates were the first draw in the first half and were awarded a penalty after a cross from Rakhale was hand blocked. Kermit Erasmus stepped up to take the penalty but saw his shot saved by Washington Arubi . However, Pirates took the lead in the last minutes of the through a volley from Ayanda Gcaba who saw his shot blast passed Arubi to hand the home side a win.
