Pirates Legend Innocent Chikoya on Soweto Derby |
Fani : Good Day Inno.
Inno : Hola Fani.
Fani : we just witnessed another Soccer Derby ending in a draw what’s your take ?
Inno : A fairly good result for both clubs, we know Pirates haven’t been doing well and the fans expected a win but they were an unbeaten side in 2017.
Fani : True that, Chiefs have been doing faith good.
Inno : Pirates came into the game with a new coach who only took only has one game at Pirates.
Fani : What’s your take on the coach ?
Inno : He seems like a good coach that will steer the Pirates ship into the right direction looking at the way the team is playing. The team is slowly picking up their momentum and are showing the his vision on football even when he is still trying to find his winning team or starting 11.
Fani : Watching the game, what did you see that wasn’t there at Pirates before he took the hot seat?
Inno : The players looked motivated and we saw a different Pirates team since the Sundowns game with the team showing a bit of how we know Pirates to be playing. The team was unlucky against Polokwane City and today as well.
Fani : So the club should have easily won the game according to you ?
Inno : Yes , they started off well in the first 20 minutes every time they were in control of the ball. They should have buried Chiefs had they converted their chances.
Fani : The looked promising and what happened ?
Inno : They kept pushing forward but were unlucky not to score. We saw another good performance by S.A best goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune , who stood in between Pirates win once again.
Fani : Sure, he played well and indeed stood in between Pirates win.
Inno : He pulled brilliant saves that should have gone in but the showed brilliance. Dove had 3 in target shot and Itu just didn’t want to see him score.
Fani : Yes, Dove took shots and what your take on him.
Inno : We cannot say he had a bad game because he didn’t score. He played really well but just unlucky that he didn’t convert and build from the goals scoring opportunities.
Fani : Once again he played well but didn’t score in his first derby.
Inno : We saw him being substituted and Tendai Ndoro being brought in.
Fani : Was it because he was tired or the coach was looking to bring fresh legs ?
Inno : He didn’t look tired to me, just that the coach seemed like he was looking for a killer instinct as we saw Tendai partner Gabuza.
Inno : On Gabuza , what’s your take looking at his performance ?
Fani : We know what the boy is capable of, just a bit flat due to match fitness but he seemed motivated for the match. Remember he scored two goal for Pirates in a derby sometime ago.
Inno : He looked a bit rusty but had brilliant runs that he could have scored and out Pirates ahead.
Fani : Do you think he still lacks match fitness ?
Inno : Yah, based on the fact he hasn’t been playing. Didn’t play under Palacious and the boy can bang in goals when he is fully motivated and getting game time.
Fani : Do you think the game ending in draw was a true reflection of the game?
Inno : Look, it was a good game and Pirates needed it more and should have made the best of the chances they had in the first half. Had they converted, Kaizer Chiefs wouldn’t have come back.
Fani : They scored first through a former Pirates Chiefs and Pirates came back to score with his former Chippa United team mate in Thembinkosi Lorch.
Inno : Yes, another player who played well and had the Pirates defense working hard on the day. He was motivated and wanted to prove to Pirates that they let go of a good player. Lorch played well as well considering this was his first derby as well. Molongoane always watched from the stand when he was still at Pirates and that must have been a motivating factor for him.
Fani : Thank you Innocent Chikoya
Inno : Thanks my main and hope you enjoyed the game as much as we did.
Fani : I did my man.
