NFD : Weekend Wrap Up

It was Witbank Spurs’ day, a 3-1 win over African Warriors closing the gap on log leaders Baroka FC, who were held to a 0-0 draw in their Limpopo derby against Black Leopards.

African Warriors 1-3 Witbank Spurs – Charles Mopeli Stadium

Spurs narrowed the gap on pace setters Baroka FC with an emphatic away win. Cleopas Dube scored for the Mpumalanga side in the 38th and 84th minutes, while Joshau Sauls netted in the 73rd minute. Ange Lebahi got Warriors’ goal, on the hour mark.

Black Leopards 0-0 Baroka FC – Thohoyandou Stadium

It was a highly entertaining Limpopo derby, with plenty for the capacity crowd to get excited about, the only thing missing on the day being goals, Baroka nevertheless holding on to the top spot, four points above Witbank Spurs.

FC Cape Town 3-1 Vasco da Gama – NNK Rugby Stadium

FC Cape Town moved four points clear of the drop zone with their derby win over neighbours Vasco. The home side were in front on 10 minutes when Maboke Matlakala headed in from close range. Vasco were close to equalizing on 21 minutes but Ritchie Sebastioa fired his shot into the woodwork. But Vasco were soon level through Ntambi Kirizestom’s 25th minute penalty, only for the African Beasts to reclaim the advantage on 40 minutes when Simphwe Gwala slotted home after some good work from Siyabonga Sibiya. The African Beasts sealed their win when Gwala netted 20 minutes from time.

Royal Eagles 3-2 Moroka Swallows – King Zwelithini Stadium

Swallows took the lead through Msekeli Mvalo, before Siyanda Ngubo equalized for Eagles, who then took a 2-1 lead in to the break thanks to Philani Cele’s goal. Swallows made it 2-2 when Khotso Malope got on the score-sheet, but veteran defender Dominic Isaacs netted an 83rd minute winner for the hosts.

Highlands Park 2 – 2 Mbombela United – Makhulong Stadium

Park took the lead through an early goal by Samkelo Nkosi (11th minute), the visitors however drawing level just before the break through Lebohang Maboe. Again Highlands Park went in front, through Thapelo Mathibe, but debutant Thokozani Mshengu rescued a point for Mbombela United.

Mthatha Bucks 0 – 0 Amazulu – Mthatha Stadiuma

Mthatha Bucks continue to try and edge clear of the relegation zone, the NFD rookies holding AmaZulu to a 0-0 draw at the Mthatha Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The result sees Amathol’amnyama moving to 12 points, one above 16th placed Moroka Swallows and two behind African Warriors in 14th spot, with 12 round of action to go
