NFD: Saturday Match Wrap

Bucks_Vasco1There was some riveting National First Division action on Saturday afternoon, with 14 goals scored in the five matches played as the relegation and promotion battles continue to heat up.

Witbank Spurs 2-2 AmaZulu

A see-saw battle in Witbank ultimately saw the shares spoiled. AmaZulu drew first blood, scoring through Zaid Patel, who netted from the spot on 16 minutes after a Humphrey Khoza hand-ball. Two goals in quick succession after the break by Percy Tau and Joshua Sauls put the hosts ahead. But Usuthu made sure they did not return to Durban empty handed thanks to Marc van Heerden’s brilliant late free kick.

Thanda Royal Zulu 0-1 Mbombela United

Mbombela left it late in Richards Bay, Tshidiso Patjie scoring in the 90th minute to boost Mbombela’s promotion hopes.

Vasco da Gama 1-1 Mthatha Bucks

Bucks scored on 19 minutes when Bafana Dlamini sliced through the Vasco defence before scoring with a low drive into the far corner. The match remained on a knife-edge throughout, with some nervy moments in the Bucks defence in the second half. Vasco finally found the equaliser when Rafiq De Goede scrambled in the ball from close range.

Baroka FC 3-1 Santos

Two second half goals, by Nkosinathi Ndlovu and Jacky Motshegwa, powered the log leaders to victory, Baroka now five points above Spurs. Lucky Mothwa and Suhayl Allie had scored in the first half, which ended 1-1.

African Warriors 1-2 FC Cape Town

Thamsanqa Ngema was on target for the home team, but a Siphiwe Gwala brace ensured maximum points for the African Beasts.
