NFD: Saturday match wrap
Witbank Spurs, Royal Eagles, Highlands Park and Mbombela united close in on Baroka Fc
There were important wins in the NFD for Mthatha Bucks, Witbank Spurs and Cape Town All Stars on Saturday afternoon, 12 goals being scored in four games.
Witbank Spurs 2-0 Milano FC
First half goals from Thabang Klaas and Bongane Mathabela in Witbank took Spurs to within one point of log leaders Baroka FC, who host FC Cape Town on Sunday. For Milano the defeat ended a five-match winning sequence.
Vasco da Gama 1-2 Cape Town All Stars
All Stars were down to 10 men at Parow Park when Ranga Chivaviro was sent off on 35 minutes, Vasco going in front in the 44th minute after Mbulelo Wambi bundled the ball in from a goalmouth scramble. But Stars were back in the game three minutes into the second half when Thembinkosi Lorch converted Thokozani Sekhotlong’s cross. Lorch completed his brace and secured all three points with a goal 12 minutes from time.
Moroka Swallows 1-2 Mthatha Bucks
Swallows drew first blood in the 25th minute when Boysen Mbatha struck. But the Eastern Cape side were on level terms just before the interval through a Moses Spandeel goal. The winner came 20 minutes from time, via substitute Sibongiseni Madikane. The win took Bucks clear of the relegation zone for the first time this season, although that could change on Sunday.
Thanda Royal Zulu 2-2 Black Leopards
It was a see-saw game in Richards Bay, as the home side went 1-0 up through Christoph Komane, only for Leopards to strike back with two goals by Djunga Munganga and Lebo Mabotja to take a 2-1 lead, Thanda securing a last gasp point thanks to Michael Gumede’s late effort.
