A hat-trick inside half an hour by Siyabonga Nomvethe fired AmaZulu to a 5-0 win over FC Cape Town in one of three NFD matches on Sunday afternoon.
AmaZulu 5-0 FC Cape Town
By the time 33 minutes had been played at the Princess Magogo Stadium, Nomvethe had banged three into the Cape side’s goal, all his goals being set up by strike partner Zaid Patel.
Marc Van Heerden scored from the spot on 70 minutes after Petrus Shitembi was fouled in the box. With 15 minutes to go, substitute Ayanda Dlamini smashed in a well-taken volley as Usuthu completed a memorable afternoon, the win taking the KZN team within three points of the play-off zone.
Baroka FC 1-0 Moroka Swallows
Baroka missed a good first half chance through Dineo Shaku, while Nkosinathi Ndlovi hit the woodwork, although the Birds were not without their chances, the home keeper also kept busy at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium as the visitors attacked with intent.
The second half saw Baroka far more purposeful, and it was Jacky Motshekgwa’s effort midway through the stanza, a well worked move, that proved to be the only goal of the match as the Limpopo team opened a six point lead at the summit.
Mbombela United 0-0 Black Leopards
A full house of over 3000 at the Kanyamazane Stadium failed to inspire any goals, the result however still enough to lift the hosts from sixth to fourth spot on the NFD table.
