NFD : Mthatha Bucks beat Santos for second consecutive win
After a ponderous start to life in the NFD, Mthatha Bucks seem to be finding their feet as they beat Santos 2-1 at Athlone on Tuesday, a second straight league win.
The visiting side started the game brightly at a hot Athlone Stadium, but were almost a goal down after five minutes when veteran midfielder Tyren Arendse smashed a shot into the bar.
Sihle Maso squandered a great chance to put Bucks ahead on 20 minutes when he fired directly at goalkeeper Tashrique Goldman after the ball had fallen for him in the box.
But Maso was to put Bucks in front just before the break when he converted from the penalty spot.
There were chances after the break for both teams as Amathol’amnyama keeper Mlungisi Maranti made a fantastic save from Suhayl Allie before Siphelele Jonassi shot marginally wide of goal.
It was Jonassi who was to get Bucks’ second goal when he netted with a superb individual effort 17 minutes from time.
The Peoples’ Team ensured a nervy finish for Amathol’amnyama when Brent Adonis headed in from a corner kick, but Bucks held on for the victory which sees them moving above FC Cape Town and into 15th spot after 14 games played
