NFD : Milano third win at All Stars expense
Milano United made it three wins from three games in 2016 as they beat Cape Town All Stars in a fierce local derby at Athlone on Wednesday afternoon.
The result takes Milano to within two points of the play-off zone, while Stars remain in second position, both teams having now played a game more than the rest of the NFD clubs.
If anything it was Ian Taylor’s Igugu Lekapa team who were on top in the first half, showing some good interplay in the middle of the park, and they nearly took the lead on 30 minutes when Ranga Chivaviro unleashed a rocket of a free kick onto the Milano crossbar.
The Kinnes picked up their efforts after the restart, and were rewarded on 64 minutes when Gregory Roelf converted with a close range volley.
Roelf completed his brace nine minute later with a cool finish from the left hand side of the box after a through ball had sliced open the Stars defence.
All Stars had to play the final 20 minutes a man short after Thembinkosi Lorch was sent off for a reckless challenge on Brandon Theron in what was a full blooded, yet not dirty affair played in front of a good size crowd at Athlone.
The NFD continues this weekend with fixtures on Saturday and Sunday.
