NFD : Kutumela steals the show with a brace
It was tipped to be a humdinger of a game during the week and it lived to expectations as they dished out a 2 – 2 thriller. Baroka FC and Highlands Park dished out the best game.
The atmosphere was electrifying, the stadium almost packed to capacity. Supporters came in numbers and surely some PSL teams would be envying the turn out.
In attends was Owen Da Gama and Thabo Senong. Where there scouting for the Rio Olympics only time will tell.
Both teams went into this game high on confidence after the last weekend results where Baroka beat Amazulu 2-0 and Highlands Park beat FC Cape Town 3 – 0. Highlands Park went into this game with a defense that conceded 8 goals in the last 14 game.
Dumisani Ngwenya and Caswell Chauke controlled the game for Baroka from the first half . The duo pinned Highlands Park in their half. It appeared Highlands Park was content with seating back and absorbing the pressure and relaying on counter attack.
It was Highlands Park who had the first attempt at goal after Matloga was fouled outside the box, the resulted free kick was poorly taken by Jemaine Christian. At this stage Baroka took control of the game an Victor Letsoala took their first shot in anger which was saved for a corner. Dumisani Ngwenya was a thorn in Allan Freese’s man and it was not a surprise when Mothobi Mvala earned a yellow card after fouling him.
Nkosinathi Ndlovu took Baroka FC second shot at goal and earned his team a corner. The resulted corner was cleared by and it feel on the path of Samukelo Nkosi who put a well weighted pass to Thabotha Muzi who made sure that the ball kisses the Net to make it Highlands Park 1 – 0 Baroka FC. It was a surprise when Samukelo Nkosi was taken off and Peter Shalulile brought in.
Thabiso Kututmela earned himself a yellow card after he fouled Mothobi Mvala. The first half ended with Highlands Park leading 1-0. The second half picked up where the first left off but a lapses in concentration by Baroka defense gifted Peter Shalulile an scoring opportunity who took it calmly to make 2 – 0. Shalulile was a thorn as he controlled the game from the minute he came on, nullifying most of Baroka FC attacks.
Sensing a defeat Kgoloko Thobejane Baroka’s Coach made a double substitution bringing on Sphamandla Sangweni and Loyiso Simandla for Victor Letsoala and Kagiso Selemela respectively.
Simandla provided the much needed injection in the attack of Baroka FC. Highlands Park made changes as well bringing on Dino Ramic for Thabotha Muzi and Leonard Auguston for Khambule Cyprian
It appeared that Nkosaninathi Ndlovu’s tank was low and the coach brought in Tshepo Matete in his place.The stadium came alive and so did the Baroka FC game. Skhwama didn’t disappoint pull a couple of tricks that his is famous for. Skhwama’s goal attempt shot was handled in the box and the ref had no option but to point to the spot.
Kutumela stepped up and buried the resulted penalty 2 – 1. The goal made Baroka to up the antidote and the pressure made Mothobi Mvala foul Thabiso Kutumela earning his second yellow card for an early shower.
Five minutes were added at the end of the 90 minutes, Loyiso Simandla was fouled by Leonard Auguston and Kututmela stepped up to take the free kick and he beat Kapini to make 2 -2.
The only low point of the game was the officiating of Robert Smith. The officiating was not par with the game and was below standard, many fouls were left unpunished and the game was prevented from flowing.
A couple of players could have being contenders of man of the match, the likes of Dumisani Ngwenya, Thabiso Kutumela, Richard Matloga, Peter Shalulile.
“ We still have to assess the team and see where we could strengthen, but will talk to management” said Allan Freese
“ The coach told me to go in and play my normal football but it’s difficult for me to play my normal football when the team is trailing 2-0, so I have to play for the team” said Skhwama Sama Tarayani
“When I came in the tempo of the game was high” he continued
“Yes as time goes on I may change my game or have to adopt it to benefit the team”
“My aim is to help my team stay on top until the PSL. I will continue trying hard and do my best” he concluded
