NFD : Highlands Park summit the NFD log

download (56)Highlands Park are the new pace-setters in the National First Division, following a 1-0 victory over Milano United at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Highlands Park 1-0 Milano United

With Baroka involved in Nedbank Cup action on Sunday, the Lions of the North took advantage to move to top of the standings with victory at the Makhulong Stadium. The only goal of the game came in the second half and was scored by veteran defender Jermaine Christian.

Cape Town All Stars 3-1 Black Leopards

All Stars continued their recent revival by beating Leopards for the second time this season. Lidoda Duvha struck first, Bongani Manana netting on 10 minutes after the home defence were caught on their heels. But Igugu Lekapa were on even terms in the 19th minute when Mlungisi Mbunjana headed home. Sizwe Mdlinzo then set up Stars’ second goal for Thokozani Sekotlong on 65 minutes, Mdlinzo curling in a superb strike with his left foot five minutes later to ensure the win.

Vasco da Gama 1-1 Witbank Spurs

Both goals came in the opening half in Parow, Alcardo van Graan netting for the hosts, while Cleopas Dube was on target for the team from Mpumalanga.

Mbombela United 0-1 Moroka Swallows

Swallows gave themselves a real shot at avoiding the drop, the Birds moving above African Warriors and into 15th place after edging out Mbombela at the Kanyamazane Stadium, where Edwin Sitayitayi’s first half goal was the difference.

Mthatha Bucks 1-1 FC Cape Town

The Cape Town team drew first blood, Eden Nene scoring from a Xolani Mdaki cut-back three minutes before the break. But Bucks fought right until the end of the game, their two new signings – Petros Ngebo and Philani Dlamini combining in the 93rd minute for former Bafana marksman Ngebo to score.
