MDC : Countdown to season three begins
In just over a week, the popular MultiChoice Diski Challenge will return for its third edition. Today, Premier Soccer League (PSL) released the full 2016/17 MultiChoice Diski Challenge fixtures.
The opening block of the PSL reserve league will be played on Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 September 2016.
All 16 clubs will be in action on Saturday and Sunday when the third season of the MDC kicks-off. Four of those matches will form part of the opening festival, which will take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, KwaZulu- Natal while the other four fixtures will be stand-alone matches. The clubs that will participate in the opening festival in Umlazi are Lamontville Golden Arrows, Maritzburg United, Bloemfontein Celtic, Highlands Park, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates.
Defending champions, Lamontville Golden Arrows, fresh from their eight-day European Tour which was part of their prize for winning the second edition of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, will battle it out with Bloemfontein Celtic in the opening fixture on Saturday. Kick-off is at 10h00. This will immediately be followed by a clash between Gauteng giants Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs at 12h00.
On Sunday, Maritzburg United will be looking to maintain the good form which saw them finish fourth in last season’s competition when they host newcomers Highlands Park at 10h00. Later, Mamelodi Sundowns, Runners-up in the first two MDC seasons, will square up against Orlando Pirates in the last match of the opening block of fixtures. Kick-off is at 12h00.
The PSL has also announced that the last block of MultiChoice Diski Challenge fixtures will kick-off simultaneously on Saturday, 25 February 2017.
