The dream of a professional football career has finally come to life for Bloemfontein-born defender, Jerad Meyer who has signed a one-year contract with Jomo Cosmos.

The hard-tackling defender’s performance during the 2015 Nedbank Challenge against Mamelodi Sundowns caught the eyes of a number of Premier Soccer League clubs but with Nedbank’s innovative addition to the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search that saw the final Ke Yona squad drafted into PSL clubs on a one-month trial basis, the young defender is now a Jomo Cosmos player.

Nedbank’s innovative talent identification initiative has seen a number aspirant footballers turn their football dreams into a reality through the Ke Yona Team Search. Meyer forms part of the 16 Nedbank Ke Yona Team players who have been given an opportunity by Nedbank to go and try out at a PSL club. However, it did not take long for Meyer to impress Jomo Sono who handed the defender a contract with the club after just a few weeks under his tutelage.

“It is an honour for me to join a club that has a rich history of producing quality defenders in the country. I believe that Cosmos is the ideal place for a young defender like myself. I am looking forward to working with one of the best footballers and coaches to ever come out of the country in the form of Jomo Sono,” says Meyer.

Nedbank’s Senior Communications for Brand, Nkosinathi Msiza congratulated Meyer’s achievement of officially becoming a professional footballer.

“We are proud to again be instrumental in making the things that really matter happen for people. Through the Ke Yona Team Search, we have seen a number of youngsters proving that through determination, hard work and partnering with Nedbank, anyone can make their dreams happen,” said Msiza.

“Jabu” as the defender is affectionately known has started training and with his determination, he is set to make his debut for Ezenkosi in the Premier Soccer League.
