Liverpool lose as the other big three teams collect maximum points
Chelsea cruised to their first win of Guus Hiddink’s second spell in interim charge with a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
Oscar opened the scoring on 29 minutes, sliding home after Diego Costa broke clear of the Palace defence and teed him up from six yards. Wilfried Zaha scuffed Palace’s best opportunity into the arms of Thibaut Courtois on the hour mark, and Chelsea made the home side pay with two goals in six minutes shortly after.
Andy Carroll scored against his former club to give West Ham a 2-0 win over Liverpool on his 150th Premier League appearance. Two headed goals, the first from Michail Antonio after just 10 minutes and Carroll’s powerful effort in the 55th minute, secured all three points for the Hammers.
Laurent Koscielny esured Arsenal went two points clear at the top of the Premier League after edging past Newcastle 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Manchester United ended their eight-match winless run with a 2-1 victory over Swansea at Old Trafford. The goal by Rooney’s ensured that he becomes the second highest goal scorer in the history of EPL with 188 goal and means only Alan Shearer on 260 is ahead of him in the standings.
Goals from Yaya Toure (82) and Sergio Aguero (84) overcame a spirited Watford side who looked on course for victory when Aleksandar Kolarov deflected Ben Watson’s corner beyond the stricken Joe Hart on 55 minutes.
