EPL : Sore loser Yaya Toure ‘just needs a cuddle’
Yaya Toure has lashed out at the decision to award the African player of the year to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure says the decision to name Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the African Player of the Year award over himself “brings shame to Africa”.
Toure was hoping to be named winner of the coveted prize for the fifth consecutive year after captaining Ivory Coast to Africa Cup of Nations glory.
But speaking after losing out by seven points to Aubameyang in the voting, Toure appeared to be furious that he was denied another gong.
The winner was voted for by coaches and technical directors from around the continent.
“I’m very, very disappointed,” said Toure
“It’s sad to see Africa react this way, that they don’t think African achievements are important.
“I think this is what brings shame to Africa, because to act in that way is indecent. But what can we do about it? Us Africans, we don’t show that Africa is important in our eyes. We favour more what’s abroad than our own continent. That is pathetic.
“Even FIFA, with all its history of corruption, wouldn’t do this.”
The social media lashed back at Yaya accusing him of being a sore loser and thinking that the African Player of year award was his birth right, some went as far as asking what he achieved on the African soil the last four times he won the award.
Yaya is not new to lashing out
Toure lashed out at Manchester City as a whole as he felt under-appreciated. He claimed the club forgot to wish him happy birthday when he turned 31 in May 2014. It got so bad that he threatened to leave just over a cake.
‘In a normal team, his team-mates and club would at least give him good wishes. But when you have a big party to celebrate the title and no one comes to Yaya to say happy birthday, what more do you want?
‘He got a cake but when it was Roberto Carlos’s birthday, the president of Anzhi gave him a Bugatti.
‘The club’s owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday. It shows they don’t care about him. This isn’t about a new contract — it’s about human relationships and City have shown they don’t respect him.
‘If a player like Yaya went to Liverpool and they won the league for the first time in 24 years, Yaya would be a god in Liverpool. But at City Yaya is no hero. He’s nobody. That’s how the club make him feel.’ said His Agent Seluk
Against Norwich Yaya Toure ended up walking down the tunnel before the final whistle after appearing upset at being taken off in injury-time by manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Toure had converted City’s 89th minute winner against Norwich from the spot but was withdrawn for Martin Demichelis in the fourth minute of added time as Pellegrini sought to preserve their 2-1 advantage.
The Ivory Coast midfielder looked animated as he spoke to his manager and pointed his finger as if to make a tactical point.
Knowing Yaya Toure this could be the last time he attends the CAF Awards.
Could it be that Yaya Toure is big headed?
