EPL : Henry blasts Van Gaal for wasting Martial
Thierry Henry has blasted Louis van Gaal’s use of Anthony Martial against Norwich.
The Frenchman started wide on the right during the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford with Wayne Rooney deployed as the centre forward.
But it wasn’t until Martial was moved up front in the second half that he got the goal – his seventh of the season – that gave United hope of salvaging something from the game.
And Henry has questioned why Martial didn’t start as a striker and suggested the 20-year-old, who arrived from Monaco in a £36m deal on deadline day, is being wasted by the United boss.
Henry said: “What is he doing there? I actually do not know what he is doing there.
“He should be in the penalty area, having a one versus one, scoring and celebrating. Is it fear? Is it because they have been brainwashed a bit too much? I just don’t get it.
“They wanted a guy who scored goals. They wanted a guy to run in behind fast. He came in and did that. Suddenly now he finds himself out there, almost not touching the ball.
“I think if I had a player like that, he would be my No, 9 and the rest are around him.”
