Cricket : Newlands T20 international double-header
Cricket South Africa (CSA) will break exciting new ground this coming season when they host double-header T20 International programmes that will feature both the Proteas and the National Women’s team.
Both sides will play England in two T20 International matches today, 19th February 2016 against England’s men’s and women’s squads.
“This is an exciting development especially for our women’s cricket,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat. “It will certainly aid both our national teams in preparing for next year’s ICC World Twenty20 in India and will build the comradeship that already exists between them.
“With regular live TV coverage and bigger crowds, it will provide the ideal platform for our women’s team to raise its profile and to gain valuable experience in playing on a big stage.
“This development is not just important for our cricket but also for the overall profile of women’s sport in South Africa.”
Danie van den Bergh, Head of Brand, Momentum commented: “We are very pleased that our women’s national team will have equal billing to showcase their talent as professional athletes. This gives their supporters and new audiences a chance to see them in action.
We thank CSA for coming to the party with this exciting initiative and for all their efforts to raise the profile of the ladies team. With the ladies now professionally contracted with fulltime coaching staff it is no wonder that our team have steadily improved the last few years.
“As we head into a month of celebrating and inspiring South African women, it’s great to know that young South African girls, like boys, can also dream about being a Protea and playing cricket for our national teams.”
CSA has also approved the Rural Provincial Fixtures, the Women’s Provincial Fixtures, as well as the various CSA Tournaments to be played during the course of the 2015-16 season. Please see the attachments for these fixtures as well as the Tour Itineraries for the England and West Indies National Women’s Teams coming to South Africa in the 2015-16 season.
