Cricket and Rugby Transformation on the stands but not on the field
In recent times we have seen the support for Cricket and Rugby grow amongst South African communities but not on the field.
The White dominated sports i.e Rugby and Cricket have seen more African fans attend Proteas and Bokke matches.
Teams like The Blue Bulls and Free State Cheetahs are growing numbers in terms of Africans supporting their local teams.
We have witnessed Africans at the matches donning team replica shirts and chanting when ever a try is scored.
In Cricket, the Lions fan base has been increasing immensely and the trophy they won this past weekend saw the team being celebrated by more African supporters.
Earlier last month we witnessed the Proteas taking on England and the support from Africans was at the highest peak.
More people came in numbers in different provinces to give support of the National team.
The Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg saw the biggest African crowd followed by Cape Town with Pretoria give a good support that turned things around for the team after a disappointing start.
With all the growing support we are still not seeing the same transformation on the field of play.
The is still along to go before we can see the playing fields level in terms of representation.
Does this mean that these two sports starting to United the Nation once more like we witnessed back in 1995 when the Bokke triumphed at Ellis Park to win the D WORLD Cup with the whole nation behind the team?
Can the same we know see transformation on the field of play?
