Mamelodi Sundowns are the newly crowned PSL Champions has being given a lifeline by the continental body (CAF) when they threw out AS Vita Club after the Congo side were found to have fielded defaulters in their encounters with the Tshwane side.

CAF has advised South African Football Association that they would be reinstated in the Champions League, and would be included in the Group Stages Draw which takes place in Cairo this afternoon. (Tuesday).

Sundowns lost their tie against the Congo side on the away goal rule when they beat the Congo side 2 – 1 after losing 1 – 0 in Congo.

The breakthrough for Sundowns means that they will be back at work preparing for the Champions League instead of going away on a break following a  tough PSL season,  which ended at the weekend

AS Vita, fielded Idrissa Traore early on in the Champions League, who was still serving a four-match ban, carried over from when Traore played for Stade Malien of Mali.

It’s believed that it was a complaint by Stade Malien who alerted the continental body.

The ruling was made on Tuesday.

Vita Club were Champions League runners-up in 2014

The reinstatement could pose a challenge for Mamelodi Sundowns as their players are already in a holiday mood and the coach and the technical staff will have to dig deep and get the players refocused.
