CAF : Ajax Cape Town out of CAF Confederation
Ajax Cape Town threw their 2-1 lead from the first leg away, losing 2-0 at Athlone Stadium to GD Sagrada Esperanca in the second leg, with a brace from Arsenio Cabungula to secure a 2-3 aggregate win to progress through to the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Urban Warriors seemed in control of the match for large parts, maintaining possession and surging forward at the right times.
Esperanca scored a goal against the run of play when a lobbed cross found Cabungula at the far post who netted with his head. Ajax continued with their possession football and started creating more chances, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The second half saw much of the same as Ajax camped in Esperanca’s half, moving the ball across the pitch, still without any end product. The match seemed to have been dead and buried in Ajax’s favour, until Cabungula stepped up for the visitors once again to put Esperanca 2-3 ahead on aggregate.
Esperanca progress through to the next round of the CAF Confederations Cup, we wish them the best of luck for the remainder of their CAF campaign.
